Society is splitting like eggs and lemon juice because we forgot how great cake tastes.
If you’re allergic to a particular cake, don’t eat it.
But if you don’t think that the separate ingredients of lemon, flour, sugar, eggs etc are honoured by the wonder of the cake they can make when they come together, all I can say is you don’t eat enough cake.
Obviously, respect the different ingredients. If you throw lemon juice at eggs all at once then the eggs split. But if everything is combined in a way that respects the properties of each ingredient then the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Stop cancelling lemons just because you’ve never had lemon cake or lemonade.
Lemons, themselves, are the lesson. We invented them. The noble mandarin entered an arranged marriage with a pummelo.
The marriage produced a bitter heir that went by the name of Sour Orange.
One day, he was presented with Citron. Some said she had a rind that was too thick, but he was struck by her relative sweetness. From this union arrived the fruit we call 'lemon'.
So life never did give us lemons. We did. And there’s something kind of wonderful in that.
